Home Loan vs. Home Mortgage


The terms "home loan" and "home mortgage" may be used interchangeably to describe the same product. However, data from Google shows that over the past two years the term "home loan" has been searched for at about twice the rate of the term "home mortgage." The trade off for more search traffic seems to be that the term "home loan" is used to search for home equity loans, as well. This can be seen by looking at the first three Top Related Search Terms section below for the term "home loan" in purple. Just keep this in mind as you approach home buying season. From the Google search data, it looks like you can get away with using both terms in most of the United States. However, as a bank or credit union marketer in the northwest, you should probably use the term "Home Loan" in your communications, whereas the midwest seems to prefer to search for the term "Home Mortgage."
